The Best Credit Cards To Use For Amazon Purchases

While any rewards credit card can earn points on Amazon purchases, some are better than others. To maximize your spending, a cash-back credit card can be a beneficial card to have. However, if you’re looking to earn travel rewards, there are some valuable options to consider as well.

At the end of the day, find the card that makes the most sense for you and your spending habits.

Prime Visa

The Prime Visa can be your best option for Amazon rewards. But you must be an Amazon Prime member to qualify for this card. It’s also a metal credit card and doesn’t have an annual fee or foreign transaction fee.

Prime members get 5% back at Amazon.com, Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market, and Chase Travel purchases with an eligible Prime membership. Gas stations, restaurants, and on local transit and commuting (including rideshare) get 2% back. Everything else earns 1% back.

There is also a Prime Card Bonus. Cardholders can earn 10% back or more on a rotating selection of products and categories at Amazon.com.

Get a $100 Amazon Gift Card (or more) instantly upon approval, exclusively for Prime members with their new Prime Visa.

You can redeem your rewards for Amazon purchases.

Canceling your Prime membership downgrades you to the basic card.

Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card

The Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card is one of the best cash rewards cards for Amazon purchases. You earn 1.5% back on every purchase, regardless of the merchant. However, earn unlimited 5% cash back on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel. This card doesn’t have an annual fee or a foreign transaction fee.

New Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card cardholders can earn a one-time $200 cash bonus after spending $500 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.

Your best redemption option is cashback as each point is worth 1 cent. Like the other Capital One credit cards, you can redeem your points directly on Amazon, but each point may only be worth 0.8 cents each.

This is one of the best Capital One credit cards.

You can get a complimentary extended warranty on select purchases. Two other online shopping tools Quicksilver offers are Paribus and Wikibuy. Wikibuy scans the purchase price for many online stores, including Amazon, to find the lowest price.

Paribus tracks your Amazon purchases for late deliveries to get a shipping credit. This tool also looks for price drops on your recent purchases. While Amazon doesn’t offer price protection claims, you may get a partial refund for purchases from other retailers like Walmart or Target.

Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card

The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card can be one of the best travel credit cards to maximize your Amazon purchases. Most travel credit cards only earn 1 point/mile per $1 spent at Amazon. However, the Venture card earns 2x miles per $1 on every purchase. That means you’ll earn twice the amount of rewards, every time you use your card for purchases. But, you can earn Earn 5x miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel.

Your Venture miles are redeemable for travel statement credits, booking future travel, and mile transfers to select airline and hotel Capital One transfer partners.

You also get a fee credit of up to $100 for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck. These benefits, and no foreign transaction fee, make this one of the best credit cards for international travel. This card also sports the Wikibuy and Paribus online shopping tools we discussed above that can increase your Amazon shopping savings.

The annual fee is $95.

Enjoy a one-time bonus of 75,000 miles once you spend $4,000 on purchases within 3 months from account opening, equal to $750 in travel, with the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card.

Honorable Mention: Chase Sapphire Preferred Card

There is a $50 annual Ultimate Rewards Hotel Credit. It comes in the form of a statement credit that will automatically be applied to your account when your card is used for hotel accommodation purchases made through the Ultimate Rewards program, up to an annual maximum accumulation of $50. This can be one of the best hotel credit cards.

Plus, on each account anniversary, you’ll earn bonus points equal to 10% of your total purchases made the previous year. So, if you spend $25,000 on purchases, you’ll get 2,500 bonus points.

Amazon purchases will only earn 1x Ultimate Reward point per $1 spent. But, your points can be redeemed on Amazon.com, though they are worth more when transferred to the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal and used to book travel. It has no foreign transaction fee but does have an annual fee of $95. You can learn more in our in-depth Chase Sapphire Preferred review.

FAQs

Which credit card is best for Amazon?

The best credit card for Amazon depends on how you prefer to redeem your rewards points and if you’re an Amazon Prime member. Here are some of the best cards, depending on how deep your Amazon loyalty is.

  • Prime Visa: Prime members get 5% back at Amazon.com, Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market, and Chase Travel purchases with an eligible Prime membership (3% back for non-Prime members). Gas stations, restaurants, and on local transit and commuting (including rideshare) get 2% back. Everything else earns 1% back.
  • Amazon Rewards Visa Signature: For non-Amazon Prime members. Get 3% back on Amazon.com and Whole Foods purchases. Points are redeemable for Amazon purchases, cash, gift cards, and travel.
  • Capital One Quicksilver: Earn unlimited 1.5% cash back on every purchase. The built-in Wikibuy and Paribus shopping tools can help you find additional savings on Amazon and other online purchases.

Cash rewards credit cards have the highest cashback rates at Amazon. But these regular purchases can also be valuable if you have a travel rewards credit card. Most travel credit cards only earn 1 point per $1 at Amazon. But, those base earnings supplement your points balance.

Does Amazon have its own credit card?

Chase issues the co-brand Amazon credit cards for personal shopping:

  • Prime Visa (for Amazon Prime members only)
  • Amazon Rewards Visa Signature (for basic Amazon members)

You get 5% back on Amazon and Whole Foods purchases with the Prime Visa. The non-Prime version earns 3% back on these purchases. Neither card has an annual fee.

American Express issues co-brand small business Amazon credit cards:

  • Amazon Business Prime Card
  • Amazon Business American Express Card

The Business Prime Card gives you 5% back for Amazon and Whole Foods-related purchases.

Is Amazon Prime free with an Amazon credit card?

Not exactly. No Amazon credit card has an annual fee. However, you must be a Prime member to qualify for the American Express or Chase co-brand credit cards for Prime members to earn 5% back on Amazon and Whole Foods purchases. Not being a Prime member means you only get 3% back on Amazon and Whole Foods purchases.

Amazon Prime membership costs $139 per year (or $14.99 per month), plus taxes.
